Bernardo: Chief Sanity Officer & Mathematica Archaeologist
When I joined Numerai, I had nothing — just one hand in front, one behind, and a laptop. But ambition has a way of compounding, and it brought me here.
I’m a 33-year-old from the same country as Cristiano Ronaldo (though I suspect I have more NMR than him) with a BSc in Mathematics and Computer Science, always in a hurry, chasing model improvements in the quiet hours. I’ve been around since near the beginning, back when we had barely 21 numerical features to play with and I was building my first models in Mathematica. I’ve seen every era of this tournament.
ML enthusiast with a tendency to overfit. Once told: “holy mother of overfit city!” Yet I still believe even the smallest feature deserves a pearl necklace. I’ve worked from dawn to dusk — checking numerapi, hunting bugs — just to push my Artemis II up the leaderboard.
My coworkers used to call me the Sanity Checker. As your Elder, I’ll do my best to make sure none of us crash on the way to the moon.
My name is Bernardo. I came here on foot — so yes, we can.
