UX for the Modern Era

NumerCon is just 1 week out! In preparation for the big ideas we will be dropping at NumerCon, we have just released a few UX updates. We feel these updates are in-line with the future that Numerai will be pushing toward in 2026. We hope you enjoy the streamlined experience.

Changelog

  • Replaced the “Home” page with a focused Onboarding page that includes:
    • all of the current onboarding steps
    • verifying your Discord account
    • verifying your Kaggle account
  • Unified model pages (Models, Submissions, Scores, Stakes) into a single “Dashboard”.
  • There are 2 new features on the new Dashboard:
    • Archiving a model - you can now hide models that are unstaked and not submitting
    • AI manager mode - you can now hide the buttons on the Dashboard to free up space
  • We’ve moved blog posts, updates, and events to the News Feed page

Leaving “Home”

Our old “Home” page was fine for the previous era of Numerai, it helped to communicate the progress new users were making and the accomplishments of Numerai and it’s community. Unfortunately, our analytics showed that nobody spent time on this page:

And this is because the page was mostly offering early engagement for new users, but i

t was cluttered and distracting because it included onboarding, season status, blog posts, news, events, etc. And veteran users are already in Discord or following the blog, so we don’t need to show a dedicated space for this on the first page you see.

Focused Onboarding

New users should experience a simple, clean way to get started in the tournament, so we moved the onboarding steps to a standalone page and focused it to just the basics:

If you’re a new user, you’ll land here and be encouraged to:

  • Complete the tutorial notebooks and learn how the tournament works

  • Link external accounts like Discord and Kaggle to start gaining permissions & rewards

  • Checkout other resources like docs, forum, news, and the c

    ommunity

Many of you are familiar with linking Discord and the additional permissions this provides, but we wanted to also encourage the growth of our community! By adding the ability to officially verify your Kaggle account, you can help us spread the word about Numerai and brag about your Kaggle expertise to the Numerai community:

We will continue focusing this onboarding on automation and community integration. We want all new Numerati to be well-equipped for the coming AI revolution and have the connections they need to thrive.

If you don’t want to see the onboarding steps, you can still hide it from your nav:

The Dashboard: Putting Analysis First

While onboarding is important for new users, existing long-time data scientists are already in-the-loop and simply want to see how their models are doing. That’s why we are making the “Dashboard” you’re primary portal for analysis. Once you complete the onboarding - or choose to hide it - your new landing page will be the Dashboard. It includes all the statistics you need to see in one place:

And we updated the compare scores chart to simplify the display so you can review your model scores more easily:

We also added 2 features to help focus your analysis: Model archival & AI manager mode.

You can archive a model using the API or website:

Archiving a model allows you to hide it from your dashboards and ignore it from your total model count. The model has to be unstaked and have no recent submissions. Archiving models will help you retire old ideas and make way for new experiments, allowing you to more quickly detect which strategies are working and which you need to leave behind. You can show your archived models in your models list using the dashboard settings in the top right:

And your archived models will be displayed at the end of your models list, allowing you to un-archive them if necessary:

AI manager mode only does 1 thing right now: hide buttons from the dashboard:

This isn’t much right now, but makes the dashboard feel a bit cleaner and less busy. It frees up space to add more performance information, more scores, more monitoring. Let’s think about where we are going - in the coming years, we expect automation to become easier and more important. If you’re already automated, you would probably rather have more space for performance data to feed your decisions.

Integrated News & Activity

The “Home” page also contained a slew of information about recent news from Numerai and it’s community, but this always felt like a secondary feature of the page. In terms of actually showing everything that is happening around Numerai, we should have a dedicated page. That’s why we added a “News & Activity” page with a live feed of all major events happening across the tournament including stake changes, major payouts & burns, model creations, blog posts, and recent events:

We think this integrated view of all activities happening across Numerai is a major improvement in making Numerai feel alive and it’ll be available to everyone that visits Numerai.
